Every Decision Needs an Owner

In complex organisations, many people may contribute to a decision. Advisers provide information. Committees discuss alternatives. Technology produces recommendations. Teams assess the risks.

But when responsibility is shared too widely, it can quietly disappear.

I have learned that every important decision eventually needs someone who is prepared to say: “I understand the reasoning, I accept the consequences, and I will remain accountable for what happens next.”

Collaboration improves judgement. It should not become a way of protecting everyone from ownership. The strongest decision process welcomes many voices — but never leaves the outcome without a responsible human being.
