Short Short Reflection 74

Movement Returns Us to the Physical World

Reflection 74 · On Movement

1-min read · Looking Inward

Much of modern work happens through thought. We sit, read, analyse, speak and make decisions while the body remains almost entirely still. AI may increase how much intellectual work can be completed without requiring us to move at all.

I have learned that movement does more than support physical condition. It brings attention back from the abstract world of plans, numbers and future concerns into the body that is living in the present.

A walk can change the quality of a thought. Stretching can reveal tension the mind had stopped noticing. Exercise reminds us that progress can be felt rather than only measured.

The more work becomes digital, the more intentionally we may need to return to physical experience.

We think through the mind. But we live through the whole body.

In an increasingly virtual world, movement reminds us that human life still has a physical home.
