Short Short Reflection 56

Trust Must Arrive Before Intelligence

Reflection 56 · On Trustworthiness

1-min read · Looking Inward

Organisations sometimes introduce AI by explaining what the technology can do. Employees may be more concerned about why it is being introduced, what information it will use, and how it may affect their future. A technically accurate presentation cannot answer a question of intention.

I have learned that trust is built before deployment begins. It grows when leaders explain what will change and what will not; when they are clear about how data will be used; when they acknowledge uncertainty rather than promising that every outcome will be positive; and when commitments made at the beginning remain true after the system becomes operational.

People do not need to understand every technical detail before accepting a tool. But they need confidence that those introducing it will act consistently, explain important decisions, and remain accountable when something goes wrong.

Intelligence may improve the system. Trust determines whether people are willing to participate in it.

People rarely resist intelligence alone. They resist what they fear may be done with it by people they do not yet trust.
